18th Railway Tunnel of Pattipola
Sri Lanka General Railway is established by British Government and had worked both Sri Lankan and British engineers together. There are lot of secret points available along up country Railway of Sri Lanka. About 42 major railway tunnels available to Badulla from Colombo Fort. After Passing Nanuoya or Thalawakele the passenger of trains feels a special situation because the environment is like England. After Passing Pattipola Railway Station which is highest railway station of Sri Lanka, there is a special and important place to visit for foreign and local tourist.It's called 18th Railway tunnel from Colombo and darkest railway tunnel in Sri Lanka.
This tunnel is third longest (321.95m) of Sri lanka. The tunnel of Hatton(Singimale Tunnel - 559.75m)and the tunnel between Colombo - Kandy(Moragolla Tunnel -359.74m) road are first and second. Although this is third, inside is very darkest. Area of the tunnel is rural one and there are no any shelters close to tunnel. Only few quarters of CGR members are  available at Pattipola side of the tunnel.
The tunnel is narrowed one and therefore middle point becomes very dark.The tunnel made in 1919 and had been repaired several times. The mountain which tunnel 18 is crossed isedntified as Nasdanda Mountains which is same as elephant view. Tunnel 19 and Tunnel 20 are also closed to this tunnel and tunnel 18 is small one. But Tunnel 19 is very long ane and also it is direct tunnel.
Main important and specialty of tunnel 18 is sides are strictly different.  One and only place which meets in Sri Lanka with such behavior is tunnel 18. North side of the tunnel tunnel is directed to Uva Province, Badulla District and Welimada division. And Southern end of the tunnel is directed into Central province, Nuwaraeliya district and Pattipola division. And also Uva province and Welimada region subjugated to the dry zone and other end is subjugated to the wet zone of Sri Lanka. When moving this tunnel from one end to another movers feels something which cannot be feel from any place of the world.
What is IT:
Temperature difference between both ends are different, Climate of both ends are different, Soil - environment - wind - rain are also different. Any one can feels zone different during minimum of time at Tunnel 18.
Natural and Little Eucalyptus park also available in there. Ma rath mal (scientific meaning - Rhododendron arboretum) is very beautiful flower which is endemic to Sri Lanka and plant grows in higher than 5000 feet above sea level are also available.
